Agreed Alarm Terminology

Listed below is alarm terminology that ASIAL requires it's members to adopt in all areas of Australia for the sake of uniformity, and to help avoid confusion:

  • ' Intruder' alarms: Detection devices activated when alarms systems are switched on and persons should not be on site
  • 'Hold-up' alarms: Armed offenders are attempting to steal money or assets from 'at-risk' commercial premises while staff are on site
  • 'Duress' alarms: Staff are under threat of physical attack from armed offenders on site at Commercial premises
  • 'Panic' or 'Emergency' alarms: Activated from alarm panel code pad or portable wireless button installed in residences where there is perceived danger of intrusion while customers are at home
  • 'Multi-sector' alarms: Where two or more intruder detection devices are activated during a concurrent alarm situation

ASIAL members are required to comply with this Alarm Response Protocol (which also assumes compliance with AS 2201) and must provide customers with a copy on request
